The Mexican casino industry supports initiative for a new games of chance taxation system

(Mexico).- The President of the Association of Licensees, Operators and Providers of the Entertainment Industry and Games of Chance said that they are willing to collaborate in the elaboration of the new guidelines boosted by this administration.

The Association of Licensees, Operators and Providers of the Entertainment Industry and Games of Chance in Mexico pronounced in favor of Morena initiative in the Congress of the Union to analize and reformulate the taxation system for the organization and celebration of games of chance and draws.
In this sense, the President of the entity, Miguel Ángel Ochoa, affirmed that they support the initiative and are willing to share experiences and collaborate in the ellaboration of the new guidelines boosted by this administration.
He said that the betting sector in Mexico, which represents around 50,000 workers and generate other 120,000 indirect employments, is one of the sectors that contribute with more taxes at a federal level.
Besides, he assured, it has complied with its legal obligations and with the norms, especially in money laundering prevention.
“The games of chance industry in Mexico has never stated against its legal obligations, but it has expressed in favor of an exhaunstive revision, and why not, a new federal taxation system to put all operators at the same level," Ochoa commented.
However, he indicated that this industry is affected when regional and local councils have implemented a series of additional contributions that have forced to revide its operations and evaluate the decision to maintain investments and activities in the country, the financial and social costs that it would implicate.
“For years we have demanded the installation of table games so that together, authorutues, companies, academics and experts from the sector, may revise the current inconsistencies and design a new, modern and fairer tax policy, which enables, not only the growth of our activity, but also more contribution to socio economic development in Mexico," he concluded.
